The Humpbacks of Kenai Fjords National Park – Part I

Take a day boat trip into the Kenai Fjords National Park from Seward, Alaska and you are bound to see whales out there in that amazing scenery. During my time in that part of Alaska I saw a number of Humpback whales in separate pods.

This was the first group I saw in the national park. There was no breaching of the water but they came to the surface plenty of times and did quite a bit of fluking.

They also seemed to enjoy rolling on their sides from time to time. The amount of enjoyment you get from watching these giant creatures can never be exaggerated.

Seeing Humpback whales in their natural habitat is always an amazing experience and this boat trip was no exception. Kenai Fjords National Park did not fail to deliver.

Thanks. I saw them off Boston in 2013 too. Fantastic experience!

Amazing that you came that close to the humpbacks, and so fun that they were playing around! We only saw one humpback on our trip to Kenai Fjords NP, and it was gone after a couple if times at the surface. But we did see lots of orcas, so can’t complain! 🙂

Beautiful creatures. Orca are amazing creatures too. I once saw a pod of 11 off Washington state and saw a number in Alaska too. Will post something on them soon too. That’s great you saw a lot of Orca 🙂
