Further out beyond Polychrome Pass in Denali National Park you will experience further spectacular scenery. Places like Toklat River and the Eielson Visitor Centre offer great views. Eielson was as far as I travelled in the park but beyond here you can go to Wonder Lake and Kantishna for more of that spectacular scenery.
Toklat River is a bus stop on the park road. There is a small visitor centre located there and the scenery is mountainous with the rocky Toklat River bed passing through it. Keep an eye out for Dall Sheep on the nearby rocky slopes.
The Eielson area offers different scenery, a larger visitor centre and a number of hiking options (guided and unguided). I went out there a couple of times as the first time was overshadowed by heavy rain and mist.
Misty Eielson – Thorofare Ridge
Not So Misty Eielson
On the way out to Eielson you will likely see plenty of Caribou and Grizzly Bears. It is fantastic to see these beautiful animals in the wild and vast space of Denali.
Denali National Park offers a beauty very different from other national parks in the United States and is a place you really should add to your bucket list. You wont regret it!
