The Eagles Nest

Over the past few weeks I have been observing a pair of Bald Eagles coming and going from their large nest located high on top of an old tree covered in Spanish moss. The tree in itself is an amazing sight but recently I made a wonderful discovery.

I knew the Eagles were nesting for a reason and for some time I had suspected there was one juvenile eagle in the nest with the adults. Apparently Eagles have been nesting there over winter for the past 25 years. When summer comes Osprey’s take it over and the cycle of life begins again. I was very happy to see the young one this past week but they had an extra surprise in store for me up there.

It turns out the Eagles actually had 3 babies in the nest! The other cool thing was they are getting ready to fly!

I spent a couple of hours watching the nest recently. It was fascinating seeing the juvenile Eagles practice flapping their wings and seemingly showing off for their siblings and parents.

I am going to keep my eye closely on the nest in the coming weeks. Soon they will all fly where only eagles dare!
