Brad my friend from Australia and I recently undertook a road trip across the heartland of America from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Chicago, Illinois. Moving on from Pittsburgh we headed to Columbus, Ohio. This is Part 3 of a series of photos of that journey showing cityscapes, famous places and some Man vs. Food meals along the way (score update Man: 3 Food: 1)! Believe it or not a cream puff defeated me (albeit one the size of a babies head)!

Columbus is not necessarily the most exciting city, but still worth a visit. The welcome sign and even the Capitol Building are understated to say the least!

One of the interesting sights in Columbus is a replica of the sailing ship, the Santa Maria on the Scioto River that flows past the downtown area. The original was the flagship of Christopher Columbus (the namesake for this very city) on his voyage to the New World in 1492. In front of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium is a statue of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It depicts him in his body building days, when he won the Mr. World Professional Body Building competition in this very auditorium in Columbus in 1970.

Now onto the Man vs Food situation. As I said earlier I was defeated by a cream puff of all things (a special blueberry one), but I did eat 2 full plates from the awesome German sausage buffet (numerous sausages and german side dishes such as sauerkraut) at Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in Germantown before hand, hence the reason this ended up being a 1 all draw! The cream puff’s are delicious though and one of Schmidt’s specialties.

On the way to Columbus we stopped in a town in Ohio called Cambridge. This turned out to be a great decision as there was a motorcycle event going on with hundreds of cool bikes on the street!
